Just a few weeks after the release of The Batman, Director Matt Reeves has already revealed a scene that didn’t make it into the film. This deleted scene finds Robert Pattinson‘s Caped Crusader coming face to face with The Crown Prince of Crime, played by Barry Keoghan (Eternals).
When The Batman was filming, rumors began swirling that Barry Keoghan had been cast in the film under a top secret role. As you can see above, that role has been confirmed to be The Joker. However, this is unlike any take on the iconic villain we’ve seen so far. Reeves described Keoghan’s version of The Joker as inspired by the original source of inspiration for the Joker: The 1928 film “The Man Who Laughs”. In this film, a man who is horribly disfigured as a child by a king becomes a clown at a freak show.
Warner Bros. reportedly tested two versions of the film one with the scene and one without it. You can figure out which version they opted for. Reeves has stated that it’s no guarantee that Keoghan’s Joker will ever appear in a potential sequel, but we can relish in a pretty original performance above.
