The director/writing team behind the zombie flick, 28 Days Later, are coming back together for an all new sequel titled 28 Years Later!
At last, we getting another sequel to 28 Days Later. The first film remains one of my all time favorite zombie films, as it’s themes and unique take on the undead continue to resonate even two decades later. The first sequel, 28 Weeks Later, also whips, but with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland only serving as producers, has a different feel about it.
Now the duo are returning to this world with a potential new trilogy of sequels, that would kick off with 28 Years Later. A package is being sent out to studios/streamers this week for a sale (I imagine it’ll get snatched up quick), which proposes a new trilogy where Boyle would direct the first film, while Garland would write all three scripts.
This isn’t the first time Boyle has discussed wanting to come back to the world of 28 Days Later, but with a plan in place (even an expected budget), it looks like fans can finally expect to see it happen.
With the original team coming back behind the scenes, I wonder if that means there’s a chance we’ll get to see what’s become of the original cast of survivors. The original film helped launched Cillian Murphy’s career, but as he looks down an Oscar nomination, I’m curious to see if he’d be willing to come back for this.
Either way, the hype is real and I’ve already queued up the film(s) for a rewatch this weekend!
