‘Footloose’ Looks Better Than Ever 40 Years On in 4K UHD Release

Footloose looks stunning on the recently arrived 4K UHD release, as Becky recently discovered.

For years I knew Kevin Bacon for two roles in particular: Jack Swigert in Apollo 13 and his star making role in Footloose. As the iconic film turns 40 this year, a 4K UHD version was released earlier this month and I was eager to check it out to see how my childhood memories hold up in 4K.

In short, it looks amazing! Footloose may be forty years old (!!) but you’d never know it seeing it in brilliant 4K. For those not familiar, the story follows Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a Chicago teen who finds himself living in a small country town where dancing is forbidden.

Of course seeing the film again was great, but what really puts this release into the “must buy” category are all the special features that came with it.

These are listed below:

  • Commentary by Craig Zadan and Dean Pitchford
  • Commentary by Kevin Bacon
  • Let’s Dance! Kevin Bacon on Footloose
  • From Bomont to the Big Apple: An Interview with Sarah Jessica Parker
  • Remembering Willard
  • Kevin Bacon’s Screen Test
  • Kevin Bacon Costume Montage
  • Footloose: A Modern Musical – Part 1
  • Footloose: A Modern Musical – Part 2
  • Footloose: Songs That Tell A Story
  • Theatrical Trailer

I’ve had the opinion for years that the special features can be one of the best parts of a 4K release, especially for films like Footloose that are getting older. With cast getting older, it’s nice to have a choice of commentaries and special features that look into the making of the film while people are still alive who can talk about such things.

In short, this is a 4K release well worth picking up. The picture quality is great, the special features are worth checking out, and it all ensures Footloose continues to entertain for years to come.

Footloose is now available on 4K UHD.
