As a fun way to celebrate 45 years of the iconic franchise, Alien: Romulus will be getting a limited edition VHS release. That’s right, VHS.
During a special screening/appearance at Beyond Fest, Director Fede Alvarez revealed that in addition to the 4K Ultra HD release of Alien: Romulus on December 3rd, there will also be a special (i.e. limited) VHS edition as well. Even better, it comes with cover art from the always impressive Matt Ferguson.
And yes, this will be fully functional, making this the first major film released on VHS since 2006 (the last one was A History of Violence). For some reason, it’ll be in 4×3 format for that extra does of nostalgia, even thought widscreen VHS tapes were a thing back in the day…but whatever. It’s a neat idea.
While I doubt this is an indication of some VHS resurgence, it’s still a fun way to honor the past in physical media and give collector’s something truly unique to boot. Alien: Romulus is currently available digitally, with the physical release (4K and VHS) hitting on December 3, 2024.
