Bryan Lee O’Malley’s (Scott Pilgrim) other graphic novel is getting some big screen attention, with Seconds set to be Blake Lively’s directorial debut!
If you like the Scott Pilgrim comics (and you should), then there’s a solid chance you’re already familiar with Seconds, the graphic novel Bryan Lee O’Malley released after finishing Scott Pilgrim‘s final novel. If you haven’t read it yet, head on over to Amazon (or, preferably your local book/comic book store) and pick it up. It’s damn good.
Now, it too is getting an adaptation for the big screen. THR is reporting that Blake Lively is set to make her directing debut with the adaptation for Searchlight Pictures. Even better, Edgar Wright, who wrote and directed the Scott Pilgrim adaptation, has written the script and is producing. The man knows how to adapt O’Malley’s unique humor/storytelling, so this project has immediately shot up on my list of most anticipated.
The story centers on Chef Katie Clay, who discovers the ability (thanks to a magic mushroom and journal) to fix past mistakes. Her newfound power, however, begins to take its toll as she becomes obsessed with fixing every little thing in her life. It’s a damn fun book, and one I’ve come back to a few times for its messaging and humor. As such, I can’t wait to see what Lively and Wright do with the movie.
No release date set, but it sounds like things are in place to move fairly quickly.
