Beau Willimon Co-Writing James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi Film

Lucasfilm has tapped screenwriter Beau Willimon, to help co-write the previously announced James Mangold Star Wars film that explores the origin of the Force.

How about some MORE Star Wars news to end the week on? It’s already been an incredible week with two new episodes of The Bad Batch, the Tales of the Empire reveal trailer, new images from The Acolyte, and even a reveal for the next Star Wars Outlaws trailer. Somehow, there’s still more for fans to enjoy!

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Beau Willimon has been hired to help write the script for James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi (working title) film. The film was announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration and will take place 25,000 years before the events of the films to show the origins of the Force and Jedi.

Willimon had previously worked on House of Cards, but more recently wrote scripts for three episodes of Andor‘s first season…Including the iconic “One Way Out” episode. As such, I’m already feeling the hype kick into gear. Combine that with Mangold’s flair for big storytelling and it feels like Dawn of the Jedi could be something special.

The movie doesn’t currently have a release date, but it looks to be Mangold’s next film after the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, which stars Timothée Chalamet and is currently filming. Which means we hopefully won’t be waiting too long to see this one come to fruition.

With The Mandalorian and Grogu now having a set release date, and work on the New Jedi Order flick still progressing, it feels like Lucasfilm has re-found their footing when it comes to Star Wars on the big screen. Let’s keep those fingers crossed that the good momentum keeps up!
