The Infected Return in first 28 Years Later Trailer

Our first look at Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s return to the world of 28 Days Later has arrived, teasing a tense and terrifying new story.

Easily among my most anticipated movies of 2025, today brings our first official trailer for 28 Years Later. The film brings back the original filmmakers from the first film and looks to evolve the story of the infected and how it’s impacted the world.

This is a phenomenal first trailer. From the first scene, with it’s frenetic pacing over something “mundane” like kids watching TV immediately sets the tone and lets us know Danny is absolutely back behind the wheel. Then there’s the bone courtyard, some cultists (maybe), more evil dudes, and is that an infected Jim (from the first film)?!

There’s so much going on here; packed with incredible tension and giving almost nothing away. Even better, it doesn’t feel like a retread of things we’ve already seen before; but more of a true evolution. Something hinted at in the new poster released for the film as you see the new tagline about the infection “evolving.” Lots of ominous implications there and can’t wait to learn more.

Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new story set in the world created by 28 Days Later. It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20, 2025.
