Check out 3 additional games remastered for the series to celebrate the record achievement.
Tomb Raider as a series has hit the 100 million units sold according to Crystal Dynamics.
“We’re so honored to share a huge milestone for Tomb Raider – we have officially reached over 100 million games sold across the franchise! This is a momentous accomplishment that few video game franchises ever achieve.”
The first Tomb Raider released on PS1, PC, and Sega Saturn in 1996 and has since seen several adaptations, and reboots. The most recent collection of Tomb Raider I-III released on February 14th, in part thanks to some fans that were already working on the remakes.
Interestingly the new collection follows the next 3 games, which were not as well received by the fans and led to an eventual soft reboot after. Angel of Darkness overall was looked at as an “unfinished” game, so it will be interesting if the same level of work goes into this collection by Aspyr as the first collection. The first group was well received for not only updating gameplay and visuals, but adding in key features to make the overall game smoother and easier to play.
The new collection Tomb Raider IV-IV Remastered features updated versions of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The original games were released for the PS1 and Sega Dreamcast, with the last one releasing on the PS2.
This is the first time these 3 games have been given similar treatment as the first 3 games, but hopefully the trend continues and we will see Tomb Raider: Underworld get a remaster as well.
It’s also worth noting it’s fun to be a Tomb Raider fan with a new animated series also airing on Netflix right now as well!
