A widespread number of users are reporting that wallet funds were removed as a potential award for PlayStation Stars.
PlayStation Stars is the reward program Sony created for purchasing items via the PlayStation store. You need an active PS Plus account to accumulate store purchase points, but you can also enroll in several campaigns that reward coins as well. These campaigns usually consist of buying a newly released game, or joining an online game of the week.
PlayStation Stars has been fairly decent for users because there were options to get wallet funds added to their PlayStation account. The increments included 5, 10, and 20 dollar increments and were fairly easy to earn after a couple purchases on the store. However lately it seems these wallet funds have been sporadically removed.
Based on several reddit posts, it appears that the issue is more region based than anything. People in Europe are reporting all the options have been removed, while people in North America are randomly seeing 10 dollar increments, with a majority reporting the other denominations are gone.
After trying to confirm this for myself, PlayStation Stars has gone down yet again. So it could potentially be a glitch, or it could be down due to the new policy update. The new policy, that everyone has to agree to, includes the removal of earning points for PS plus subscriptions, and a yearly refresh of points (instead of 24 months).
However it is becoming pretty common to see rewards stores imploding as of late. Just recently Disney shut down their entire Insider Rewards program after stifling rewards for about a year, and removing many of the perks. A very similar road Stars is currently taking. Sony also shut down their own rewards program (different from Stars) at the same time.
After PS Stars was down for a lengthy period of time, it hasn’t been stable ever since. So our personal suggestion is that if you have points and the wallet option appears, go ahead and use it while you can.
