Look I can’t give my opinion to them directly (officially) so I’ll call it here, stop being the Apple of gaming Sony…..
There were recent reports as influencers and other users got their hands on early units of PS5 Pro that the recently released PS5 Slim covers were not compatible with the unit. Videos started circulating showing the attempts to make it work, and now Sony has confirmed to IGN that it is indeed the case.
“PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future,” a PlayStation representative said.
It appears that the covers are basically the identical size needed to fit, but Sony has subtly changed the grooves in the Pro and faceplates so they no longer align together.
It doesn’t help that Sony just recently released a new line up of colors that you’d probably want to use with your new PS5 Pro, but don’t worry….. Sony will let you buy them again. It just seems ridiculous at this point how much money Sony wants to milk out of consoles, but more importantly it simply doesn’t make sense. Now when exclusive covers are released they need to make two different formats?
There have been alternatives to the official faceplates for a while, but with Sony suing them they dont perfectly match the design of the PS5. However with Sony constantly changing the requirements of the faceplates, it might still be a better investment. Especially considering the official faceplates Sony offers are not cheap. (And neither is the Pro, coming in at over 700 dollars)
