The Recap: Entertainment News for the Week of 10/21 – 10/26

With movie trailers and gaming news in abundance, there may have been a few things you missed this week in entertainment news. We’re here to help!

Love Hurts Trailer

This week brought the first trailer for the upcoming action/comedy flick starring Ke Huy Quan. With it’s solid 00s Jackie Chan-esque vibes, I’m all on board for this one.

Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb Raider, Warcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.

Love Hurts hits theaters on February 7, 2025.

First Trailer for The Brutalist

In other, less—lighthearted—trailer news, this week also brought the first trailer for A24’s The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody.

Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes. On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost…

The Brutalist hits theaters on December 20, 2024.

Gundam Break 4 Story DLC Arrives

Bandai Namco launched new story DLC for Gundam Break 4 this week, the first in a wave of new content coming to the game over the next four weeks.

The first Story DLC mission, “GO! RESTART!!” is available beginning today and adds four fearsome Mobile Suits for players to further enhance their customizations: the Crossbone Gundam X1 Full Cloth, Penelope, the 00 Qan[T] Full Saber, and the Sengoku Astray Gundam.

As an aspiring Gunpla hobbyist, players will be able to mesh together their own mecha creations by using parts from more than 250 iconic Mobile Suits from throughout the Gundam series, and then test their creations on a virtual battlefield with up to 3 players in co-op multiplayer. Fight through missions to hack, slash and shoot through hordes of enemy mechs, build up combos by chaining together melee and ranged attacks, breaking off their parts to collect and upgrade builds. GUNDAM BREAKER 4 introduces an all-new feature to the series, where players will be able to dual-wield different weapons for unique combos in their quest for the best parts to build the perfect Gunpla. Fight through the game’s fully voiced story mode to uncover the sinister plots within the GBBBB battle simulator.

Gundam Breaker 4 is out now for the PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The Thing: Remastered Gameplay Trailer

During this week’s Indie Horror Showcase, Nightdive Studios showed off a new gameplay trailer for The Thing: Remastered.

Nightdive Studios has upgraded this horrifying classic for the modern era through its proprietary KEX Engine for play on current-generation gaming devices up to a 4K resolution at 120FPS. Improvements to character models, textures, and animations have been hand-crafted by Nightdive Studios, with the implementation of advanced 3D rendering for updated lighting and atmospheric effects — for a suspenseful and disgustingly detailed remaster that reanimates the thrilling game for modern audiences.

In the frozen arctic tundra, a mysterious shape-shifting alien has wiped out the crew of the U.S. Outpost #31 research facility. In The Thing: Remastered, players step into the boots of Captain J.F. Blake, the leader of a United States Army Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events that transpired in the original The Thing film. Trapped by the elements and at risk of infection by a horrific entity, Blake must keep his squad together to survive by gaining their trust and ensuring that their fear and paranoia don’t get the best of them… or himself.

The Thing: Remastered arrives digitally on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PCs at some point later this year.

First Trailer for Based on a True Story Season 2

This week, Peacock dropped the first trailer for the second season of Based on a True Story, starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina.

Season two finds new parents Ava and Nathan Bartlett three months into parenthood. Focused on taking care of her family, Ava is determined to resist her true crime obsession and return to work as a real estate agent while Nathan trains private tennis clients. But a series of new murders pulls her back in – is Matt behind the slayings? Is Tory, now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good — Ava’s TikTok habit and her new friend Drew provide a welcome distraction, and Nathan’s all in on reigniting his tennis career as well as his friendship with Matt — until danger comes knocking, literally.

All eight episodes of the season hits Peacock on November 21st.

Two (?!) New Predator Films Arrive in 2025

During an interview with 20th Century Studios’ boss Steve Asbell, The Hollywood Reporter, managed to get him to reveal a second Predator movie, different from Dan Trachtenberg’s upcoming Predator: Badlands (which recently snagged Blade‘s now vacant November 7, 2025 slot). The secret new film is already down and also directed by Trachtenberg which is set to arrive at some point before Badlands.

The interview also revealed an Alien: Romulus sequel is already in the works and that a new Aliens vs. Predator movie will likely happen at some point.

Tomb Raider Gets a Second Season at Netflix

Netflix announced this week that Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (which debuted earlier this month) has been renewed for a second season! Showrunner Tasha Huo had this quick bit to say on the news:

So, Season 1, thematically, is about Lara embracing how her dad dealt with grief, which was isolating. When we meet Lara, she’s very isolated…As we get into Season 2, we’re trying to build Lara’s team over the course of the show, so she goes from isolated hero, who only wants to do things on her own—a lone wolf—to realizing, ‘Actually, I have this really cool team behind me.’

Next Spider-Man Movie Gets a Release Date

Mark your calendars, as Sony has finally given Tom Holland’s next Spidey film a release date. Spider-Man 4 (for lack of a better name) will hit theaters on July 24, 2026. That puts it just a little under two months out from Avengers: Doomsday, so I imagine there will be some crossover story stuff going on. Funny enough, this is also just a week after Christopher Nolan’s new film is set to release…which will also star Tom Holland.
