Low on Video Game Funds? Here are Five Horror Games to Play on PlayStation Plus

As the world turns, prices have risen, and pay has stayed the same for most middle-class citizens. With most of us budgeting our way through life, it’s hard to spend $79.99 on a new gaming experience, even around the holiday season.

With that, I thought I would throw together a list of five horror games you could play today to help you celebrate the last day of the spooky season! Here are five horror games you should play from PlayStation Plus this Halloween;

5. Metal: Hellsinger

Platforms: PlayStation 5, GeForce Now, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S
Release date: June 8, 2022
Developer: The Outsiders

(Game Review Summary)

Metal Hellsinger has left me in shock and awe, everything about this game bleeds metal fantasy and has rocked its way into a Game of The Year contender seat. From the fast-paced gameplay to the comic-like story to of course the breathtaking music for the game, this is a must-buy, stop what you’re doing and play it title! I can’t wait for what is hopefully coming next for this game, but until then, it’s time for me to stop typing and start playing Metal Hellsinger all over again!

4. Dead Island 2

Platforms: PlayStation | Xbox | PC (Epic)
Release Date: April 22nd, 2023

Developed By: Dambuster Studios

(Game Review Summary)

Overall Dead Island 2 is a Hell-A experience with an insane level of detail that throws zombie guts in your face. Blasting zombies with the FLESH engine is so satisfying, and the breakdown of 10 open areas is a welcome change to cookie-cutter open world titles.

Dead Island 2 stuck to the basics and with an incredible amount of detail, but it fails to raise the bar and is missing some key basics you expect from modern games. That being said it’s a substantial entry in the series and if that level of detail could be expanded upon we could get some really great DLC in the future.

3. The Evil Within 2

Developer: Tango Gameworks
Initial release date: October 12, 2017
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft Windows

(Game Information)

From Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within 2 takes the acclaimed franchise to a new level with its unique blend of psychological thrills and true survival horror.

Sebastian Castellanos has lost everything, including his daughter, Lily. To save her, he’s forced to partner with Mobius, the shadowy group responsible for the destruction of his former life. For his last chance at redemption, the only way out is in.

2. Outlast 2

Developer: Red Barrels
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, GeForce Now
Release date: April 24, 2017

I must confess that I never managed to complete Outlast 2 because it filled me with such overwhelming terror! This game stands out as one of the most heart-pounding horror experiences I have ever encountered. The atmosphere is drenched in suspense, with chilling visuals and haunting sound effects that kept my heart racing.

I fully intend to return and finish it someday, but it’s important to note that the developer, Red Barrels, has mastered the art of crafting moments that will not only make you scream but will also linger in your mind long after you’ve turned off the console, resulting in nights filled with unsettling nightmares.

1. Days Gone

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows
Developer: Bend Studio
Release date: April 26, 2019

(Game Information via PlayStation)

Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic.

Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… or more violent means.

I hope this list helps you find some great horrifying experience on Halloween, as well as after. I know we all want something new and fresh, but with great subscription services like PlayStation Plus, this is some of the best titles you can have a good jump scare with while also having a great gameplay experience!
