If you’re looking for something fun to play in the spirit of the holiday (here in the US), we have some ideas on what should you pop in.
Most years during July 4th, friends and family come together to celebrate Independence Day. Good food, camaraderie, and fireworks makes for a very excited and relaxing weekend. Though some of the areas of the United States are more open now than in the last two years, some have to stay inside, closed away from these activities.
With the July 4th celebrations coming to a close and some of us not being able to celebrate with our loved ones, it’s the perfect opportunity to play some great games that feature a little wild and crazy fun, patriotism, and just over-the-top action to ring in the week of our countries Independence. Here’s what you should play today:
Bioshock: The Collection
Bioshock has always been near and dear in my heart. When it first launched as an exclusive in 2007, it was the reason I bought a 360. As time went on, the franchise grew into a swirling, horror, and politically driven series that not only bridged the gap between real-world historical events and racial injustice, but also all the games into a wildly connecting multiverse.
The Bioshock series will be the perfect game to show the horrible side of “patriotism”, but also show the light at the end of the tunnel when someone finally breaks free from the chains of oppression. The Complete Edition of Bioshock comes packed with Bioshock 1, 2, Bioshock Infinite, and all the games DLC for $9.99 to $49.99 depend on the system you purchase it on.
ASSASSIN’S CREED III REMASTERED
The Assassin’s Creed series has always been a perfect mashup of fantastic gameplay, sprawling worlds, mind-blowing stories, and some of the best musical scores in gaming history. Though there have been some spectacular games in the series, the one the said with me the most was Assassin’s Creed III.
The story is based around Connor, a half-British, half-Native American man whose clan is on the brink of being crushed by the power-hungry Templars. As the story goes on, you see this young Native American put his life on the line for his tribe’s freedom as well as the people who colonized his own homeland. This is by far one of the best story experiences in the Assassin’s Creed saga and is a must-play.
Assassin’s Creed III Remastered comes packed with Assassin’s Creed III Liberation (originally a PS Vita Exclusive) original solo DLC, including The Tyranny of King Washington.
Enhanced graphics, now featuring 4K resolution, new character models, polished environment rendering, and more. Pick it up now for $39.99!
Wolfenstein: ALT History Collection
Wolfenstein is, and always will be, the father of the first-person shooting genre. The Masterminds at ID Software have given us some of the best video game experiences in the history of gaming. Wolfenstein has always been my go-to action-packed game. When ID Software handed the series off to sister company MachineGames, fans were shocked and excited to see the series was being relaunched with a new alternate history storyline.
In their universe, during World War II, Nazis take over all of Europe and eventually make their way onto the shores of the United States of America. You, of course, the play as protagonist and overall badass B.J. Blazkowicz; the son of Polish immigrants whose only goal in life is to defend the Red, White, and Blue.
This game saga bleeds, sweats, and breathes the love for one’s countrymen, ideals, and how free men and women should always lend a helping hand to those in need! Especially when it comes to killing Nazi scum! The saga stretches over several years and eventually gives players the chance to play co-op with friends as BJ’s twin daughters!
Last year, ID Software and Machine Games announced that the Alt History Collection, this collection comes packed with Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Wolfenstein 2: Youngblood!
This is the complete relaunch saga of Wolfenstein, so if you want to see the full story, kill nazi’s as not just BJ but his twin daughters, and take the world back from the horrific grips of the Nazi World Order, buy it now for $39.99 or download them all for free on Xbox GamePass!
GRAND THEFT AUTO 4: COMPLETE EDITION
Grand Theft Auto isn’t always the best way to describe the Independence of a whole country, but it is the best way to show how powerful the American Dream can be. Grand Theft Auto IV was, by far, the best story in the saga. This game shows protagonist Niko Bellic coming to the country full of the “American spirit” and drive to do all that is necessary to make it in the new land of dreams and success.
The Complete Edition launched this past year on PC and came packed with Episodes of Liberty City DLC for the game that was based on two different main characters, and all-new side stories. This edition launched for Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2010, but this game was very successful and is still highly sought-after.
The physical version of the game goes anywhere from $35.99 to $129.99! So you might be better off buying the digital version of the game if you want to jump into this wild and crazy world!
Relaunched DOOM Saga
ID Software is a class act when it comes to creating the most over-the-top, action-packed games of all time. When celebrating July 4th, I can’t think of any better description of Independence than the DOOM Slayer. This mortal man has been through hell over the years. Not only putting his badass life on the line to not just save American, but the whole fucking world!
Back in 2016, ID Software also relaunched the DOOM Saga. Though these games were still connected to the previous DOOM titles, this is a re-telling of how the DOOM Slayer took down the full army of hell on his own and eventually sent them all packing back to HELL. If that’s not the story of Independence from tyranny and the grasps of evil I don’t know what is!
It was also recently announced that DOOM Eternal now has an official update for Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which makes the game playable in 4K and up to 120fps! You can buy the Slayer Collection which includes DOOM(2016), DOOM II, and DOOM III for $17.99. You will also want to buy the Deluxe Edition of DOOM Eternal for $79.99, but if you have Xbox GamePass you can download all these games for free!
We hope you enjoyed this list and can check some of these games out this week! Make sure to check back here soon for more Soleb Suggest, opinion pieces, reviews, and more!
